A power interruption mid adjustment, a plug that comes loose, or simply a long service history is enough to throw off the sync between a standing desk control box and its lifting columns. The result is familiar: the desk will not go up, only moves in one direction, or stops halfway. Before you suspect a fault in the control box or handset, try a reset first.
Why standing desks need resetting
A standing desk moves its motors together under the control box, and the system keeps track of each column's exact height to stay level. When power cuts out mid movement or a sensor signal glitches for a moment, this internal memory can get scrambled. The desk is not actually broken at that point, it is simply lost.
Common signs that a reset will likely help:
- The desk only moves downward, not upward
- The desk stops mid movement for no clear reason
- The display shows a reset message or a flashing code
- The desk has become uneven from side to side
Resetting your desk, step by step
This procedure fits most Jiecang control boxes. The exact behaviour can vary slightly by handset model, but the underlying principle is the same across all of them.
- Press and hold the down button on the handset until the frame reaches its lowest position. It may take up to 30 seconds before it starts moving.
- Release briefly, then press the down button again. The display may show the text RST.
- Release for a few seconds, then press and hold the down button once more.
- Keep holding the button until the desk moves all the way down and then slightly back up. The reset is then complete.
Model differences: if your handset has no display, watch for the movement pattern instead of the RST message. The underlying steps are still the same.
If the reset does not work
If the desk still behaves the same way after resetting, the cause is more likely physical than software related: a disconnected motor cable, a faulty control box, a damaged handset, or a fault inside the lifting column itself.
